Underage Holly Springs Man Charged with DWI In Fatal Crash

A 20-year-old from Holly Springs struck a pedestrian while driving Saturday night, according to WRAL. The driver, Darrius Cortez Gilbert, was allegedly driving drunk after consuming alcohol underage when he struck a pedestrian. The accident occurred at about 11PM at the intersection of N.C. Highway 55 and New Hill Road in Holly Springs.

The pedestrian, Jesse Lemar Lawrence of Holly Springs, was taken to WakeMed hospital, where he died on Sunday. Lawrence was 33-years-old.

20-year-old Gilbert was charged with a DWI and driving after underage consumption of alcohol.

Drunk Driving Statistics
