Join the Fight Against Bullying This October 2015

Girl Holding Orange BalloonWednesday, Oct. 21st, 2015, was the 5th annual Unity Day to fight bullying across the country. Founded in 2011 by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center (PACER), it has continued to raise awareness and provide a lifeline for victims of bullying who seek help and acceptance.

National Bullying Prevention Month 2015

In 2006, PACER dubbed October “National Bullying Prevention Month” to educate the public about the severity of bullying. 5 years later, Unity Day was launched to further the initiative and rally support for the cause. And since its conception in 2006, the campaign has gained the attention of children, parents, teachers and communities across the nation. Even celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and Anderson Cooper have chosen to do their part to raise awareness.

How to Get Involved this October

Though Unity Day 2015 has come and gone, you still have the entire month of October to help us fight bullying. Here are a few easy ways you can get involved:

Reach out.

Do you know someone who may be suffering from bullying, but is too afraid to talk about it? Reach out to them and let them know you’re there for support. Spread the word this October and encourage them to get involved and talk to others about their experiences with bullying.

Host an awareness event.

Host your very own bullying prevention event to show support for the cause. You can feature orange snacks, decorations and ask everybody to wear orange!

Wear some orange.

You don’t have to sport a full-on orange outfit, but wearing some sort of symbolic orange gear is a simple way to join thousands of others across the nation in showing your support this October.

Hit social media.

Commenting, sharing and engaging on social media can help spread awareness this October. So check out PACER’s Facebook event to see how others are promoting bullying prevention month, and don’t forget to use the hashtag #UnityDay2015 on Twitter or Facebook to start conversations about the cause!
