Wrong-Way Crashes in North Carolina are on the Rise

There was yet another wrong way driver-related crash on Monday in Durham, resulting in two fatalities and numerous injuries to those riding in an SUV involved in the incident. The reports of these wrong way crashes in North Carolina seem to be on the rise. According to a report, in the last 16 years there have been more than 500 wrong-way driving motor vehicle crashes.

According to the news article, the rise in fatalities and injuries has prompted the NCDOT to start looking into and studying why this may be happening. According to a separate study conducted by reviewing crashes between 2006-2012, a six year time period, there were 200 incidents. If this is the case, and if the report from WRAL is correct, that would mean that in the last four or so years there have been 300 wrong-way driver crashes, which is approximately 45 more per year.
