After a rash of recent accidents, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has released new videos outlining the dangers of being nonchalant around railway crossings and rail yards.

Train engines are large machines and cannot be stopped in a timely fashion. Most trains take up to 1-1.5 miles to come to a complete stop once the brakes are applied. With these facts in mind, here are some precautions anyone can take to stay safe:
