Head On Car Accident in Greenville

An ECU grad student is being remembered as outgoing, witty, and funny.

Amanda Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene after her car crossed the center median and collided head on with a truck in Wilson Monday. Investigators said she may have over-corrected when she ran off the side of the road.

"She could light up a room when she walked in with just her smile," said Kyle Smithwick, an ECU senior who knew Kelly well.

Kelly was going to graduate in May and already had a job lined up in Charlotte for post graduation. She recently took her CPA exam and was a huge Pirate fan who frequented football games.

"She was an excellent student," said Mary Beth Corbin who was Kelly's supervisor at the Office of Student Transitions and First Year Programs office on campus.

Kelly worked there as part of the orientation team for new students coming to ECU. She was also very active in the Business school where she was working towards a Master's Degree in accounting.

Kelly also had a very close circle of friends, a boyfriend as well as a dog that she loved very much.

Kelly was Canadian and spent this year's Spring Break in Canada visiting her family.

"She had just come back, her parents had driven her back here last week and they were actually in our office on Friday we all had lunch together and then she had taken them back to Raleigh on Saturday to go back to Canada, so that was a really nice time they all had together," said Corbin.

A memorial service for Kelly will be held this week. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the accident.
