A Spike In Hate Crimes Against Indian Americans
One night in Kansas…
On Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at a bar in Kansas, two Indian men and one American man were shot during a racially motivated attack. One of the Indian men died of his wounds and the other two gentlemen were severely wounded. According to witnesses, the gunman yelled, “Get out of my country,” amidst a flurry of other racial slurs before opening fire. The father of one of the victims blamed the shooting on the election of President Trump, describing the President as a threat to people from outside of the country’s borders, and pleaded with parents from India to not send their children to America.
Weeks later in South Carolina…
On March 2, 2017, an Indian man was shot and killed at a gas station in South Carolina in what appears to be another racially fueled crime. The GPCC President Bharat Solanki urged the Prime Minister of India to take note of the issue and actively work with President Trump to ensure the safety and security of Indians in the U.S.
With these and other racially charged acts of violence toward Indians surfacing around the country, it is important that we take a stand in opposition. The Law Office of D.
