Toyota has ordered North American car dealers to cease sales of six popular Toyota models with heated seats. The stop-sale order comes as a result of safety concerns regarding the soft material used beneath the seat covers. The fabric, which doesn't meet flammability standards, is not manufactured to withstand flames at a certain rate.
The models affected by the recall are a few of the top-selling vehicles from Toyota:
Toyota Models Affected by Stop-Sale
- Camry (2013 and 2014 model years)
- Avalon (2013 and 2014 model years)
- Sienna (2013 and 2014 model years)
- Tacoma (2013 and 2014 model years)
- Corollas (2014 model years)
- Tundras (2014 model years)
Though no fires or injuries have been reported in any of these models, the company is legally prohibited from selling cars that do not comply with U.S. Safety Codes. Toyota is still tallying the number of vehicles affected, but predict that the number will fall in the thousands.
But, what about the models that fall in this category that have already been sold to customers? No decision has been made – yet. Toyota has alerted the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the problem, and a spokesman from NHTSA has confirmed that he will check into the matter. Toyota spokesman, John Hanson, noted that the company doesn't believe there to be a safety issue.
As for the cars on the lots, waiting to be sold, they will receive a makeover to solve the problem. Hanson confirmed that Toyota already has a new, replacement material that's currently being installed at factories and will be placed in cars already on the lots. The order affects cars and trucks distributed to dealers in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

If you already own one of the models listed above, complete with heated seats, keep an eye on the news to see if your vehicle will be recalled.
