Winston-Salem, NC -- North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) agents arrested two people and issued warrants for two others in connection with a fatal Winston-Salem crash.
21-year-old Joshua Queen died after the car he was riding in crashed on Jonestown Road around 2am on May 6, 2009. The driver of the car, 20-year-old Joshua Burns pled guilty to felony death by vehicle last month.
On Tuesday, ALE agents arrested and charged 23-year-old John Belk with two counts of selling spirituous liquor to an underage person. Rhianna Brandt, 23, was also arrested and charged with one count of giving spirituous liquor to an underage person.
Warrants were also issed for 20-year-old Travis Matthew Carrol for aiding and abetting underage purchase of spirituous liquor and underage possession of spirituous liquor. A warrant was also issued for Jose Mercedes Mendoza Miranda, 36, for selling spirituous liquor to an underage person.
Investigators say before the wreck, Burns and Queen visited Monte de Rey Mexican Restaurant in Clemmons. Agents allege the two were served liquor and beer by Mendoza, a restaurant employee.
The release sent by ALE says both men then went to AMF Winston-Salem Lanes where they were allegedly served alcohol by Belk and Brandt. It states that Carroll was a patron at AMF and allegedly relinquished his wristband allowing Queens and Burns to purchase the alcoholic beverages.
Special Agent Bryan Irwin says in the release, that both Queen and Burns left the bowling alley and wrecked on Jonestown Road around 2am. Irwin says Burns blood alcohol level was determined to be 0.25 after the accident, over three times the legal limit for driving.
