WILMINGTON, NC - A school bus accident near the intersection of Market Street and Kerr Avenue caused traffic delays Wednesday afternoon during rush hour.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, the school bus involved was from Noble Middle School. Students were on the bus at the time of the crash but were not injured.

The school's principal responded to the scene to make sure all students were safe, moving some to another bus to be transported to their destination, while others waited for a parent or guardian to pick them up.

Witnesses told police the school bus was turning out of Holton Place Apartments and failed to yield to a white Nissan Altima approaching the intersection.

Three people in the car were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and are expected to be okay.

The driver of the school bus, Otis Hames, Jr., is being cited for failing to yield to the right of way.
