A car ramped off N.C. 58 Monday and landed in a field upside down, leaving a Kinston woman trapped inside for half an hour.
Onlookers watched firefighters from North Lenoir and Hugo fire departments and EMS personnel struggle to extricate Jennifer Mervin, 44, of Kinston from her overturned Ford Taurus for 30 minutes Monday morning.
Mervin lost control of her vehicle one mile from the N.C. Global TransPark about 9 a.m., while traveling north on N.C. 58.
“She ran off the road to the right, struck a ditch and came to rest upside down in a field,” N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper J.L. Cash said
Mervin was transported to Lenoir Memorial Hospital and then flown by EastCare to Pitt Memorial Hospital.
Cash said he was not sure how badly Mervin was injured.
“After the rescuers got her out from being trapped in the vehicle, they got her on the ambulance and I was able to talk to her,” Cash said. “She knew what was going on and was responsive. She did not know how she lost control of the vehicle.”
Traffic was reduced to one lane north and southbound while rescuers cleaned up the accident.
