CHARLOTTE, NC - Two York County Sheriff's deputies that were involved in a crash on I-77 Thursday afternoon have been released from the hospital.
The accident occurred around 3:40 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-77 just prior to Carowinds Boulevard (Exit 90).
Prior to the crash, the deputies were assisting the driver of a flat-bed truck which had stalled in a northbound lane of travel.
The York County patrol vehicle pulled behind the flat-bed truck. Deputy Christopher Laurencio was outside the patrol car and Deputy Johnathan King was inside the vehicle when it was struck from behind by an SUV.
The trunk on the patrol car was completely crumpled by the impact of the collision.
Both deputies were taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The driver of the SUV was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville. All three were released from the hospital Thursday evening.
