Police and Prison Misconduct related issues:

Police caught abusing authority on camera

Recently, there has been an ongoing investigation from the United States Justice Department concerning officer misconduct and dash cam recording these incidents in real-time. In two separate incidents, South Carolina State Troopers have been caught abusing their authority. The first incident is when a South Carolina Trooper actually runs down a suspect with his cruiser and hits the suspect into the air on a deserted highway. After his superiors got a hold of the dash cam tape, his boss decided to reprimand the trooper with an insignificant punishment of a three-day suspension.

In a separate incident in South Carolina, another state trooper was caught running through an apartment complex, almost hitting children playing in front of their apartment door. That officer was again given minor disciplinary action with a stress management class and no suspension was given to the trooper.

In Baltimore, a street cop was caught on camera manhandling a teenager because the youth addressed the officer as "dude." In this case, in Maryland, the officer did receive a suspension. Moreover, in Kansas City, a patrol officer was caught kicking a drunken driver on the side of the road. That officer has quit his position on the force. The camera was originally installed to protect officers against dangerous traffic stops. The cameras seem to be helping regular citizens validate their cases against any incident of police brutality.
