An unusual verdict reversal took place in the courtroom of Superior Court Judge Carl Fox on Tuesday of this week.
Jurors had found Marcus Bridges guilt of felony hit and run and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle in the car crash death of teenager Morgan McKenzie in June 2011. Bridges merged into the left lane of I-40 causing McKenzie’s sister to swerve and lose control of her vehicle. The car struck a tree, killing McKenzie and injuring two other occupants of the car. Bridges drove on without stopping.
Following two days of deliberations and the handing down of the guilty verdict Fox called the jurors back to the courtroom to reverse the decision. His reasoning was a lack of evidence shown by Wake County prosecutors showing Bridges knew there was a wreck.
