The rain blanketing much of NC yesterday played havoc with those on the roads, especially on highways. Hydroplaning becomes a serious risk under these conditions, with a lot more car wrecks than normal occurring.
An ambulance traveling south on I-85 near Durham hydroplaned into a guardrail and eventually flipped yesterday, with all 4 occupants being taken to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries was unknown, according to WRAL. The ambulance was not in an emergency situation and the driver will be charged for exceeding safe speeds for the wet conditions.
Luckily, no other vehicles were involved, although traffic was shut down for a lengthy amount of time while authorities cleared the crash site. With heavy rains expected throughout the region over the next few days, it’s important to pay attention on the roads and avoid excessive speeds!
